To work at the NSLC, applicants must be 19 or older and legally entitled to work in Canada.

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC), as a crown corporation, has a legal duty to protect your personal information, in compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPOP), the Personal Information International Disclosure Protection Act (PIIDPA) and other applicable legislation. This privacy statement summarizes the privacy aspects for the NSLC’s online recruitment and describes how the NSLC protects the personal information of applicants.

The NSLC safeguards the confidentiality, security, and integrity of your personal information through administrative, physical, and technical measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. These measures include, but are not limited to, restricted access to personal information, secure electronic storage, and encryption of data in transit where applicable. Personal information you provide is only accessed by authorized employees or agents who require it to perform their duties.

Personal Information We Collect

Personal information means recorded information about an identifiable individual. It includes information such as your name, contact information (personal address, telephone number, email address), employment and education history, resume, age, convictions under the Liquor Control Act or the Criminal Code, eligibility to work in Canada, self-identification and other information that identifies you.

The NSLC collects personal information only when it relates directly to and is necessary to operate a service, program or activity of the NSLC, or if a law authorizes or requires us to collect it. Specifically, we collect and use your personal information to assess your suitability for employment, and to inform our recruitment efforts as part of our goals for inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA).

Applicant Self-Identification

Providing self-identification information on the application is voluntary. This information is not accessible to the recruitment team during the evaluation process, and is reviewed only in aggregated and anonymized form. The purpose is to assess and improve recruitment initiatives. For more information in the NSLC’s commitment, please see the Employment Equity Policy.

Email Communication

We will seek your express consent to communicate with you by email about future employment opportunities. The NSLC obtains consent for all email communication. If you provide your consent to this use of your email address, you may withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing from email communications.

The NSLC cannot guarantee the privacy and security of email messages sent from your computer to the NSLC’s. This is because this information travels across the open internet and may not be secure in transit. For your protection, carefully consider the amount and type of personal information included in email correspondence.

Retention of Information

The NSLC retains personal information collected through the recruitment process for up to 3 years after the completion of the competition unless a longer retention period is required by law. After this period, personal information will be securely destroyed in accordance with NSLC policies and applicable legislation.

Third-Party Service Providers

Where third-party service providers are engaged to support recruitment processes, they are contractually obligated to comply with FOIPOP, PIIDPA, and applicable NSLC privacy and security requirements. Personal information remains under the NSLC's control at all times.

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

The NSLC is subject to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act which governs the collection, use and disclosure of personal information (information about you as an identifiable) and access to your personal information.

This legislation ensures all public bodies are accountable to the public for their business operations and handling of personal information. Personal Information International Disclosure Protection Act 

The NSLC complies with the Personal Information International Disclosure Protection Act. This Act requires the NSLC and its service providers to store and access your personal information within Canada, unless the law permits an exception. We are not permitted to send your personal information to any location outside of Canada unless we have your consent or unless the law requires or permits us to do so.

Any decision to store or permit access to personal information outside Canada is subject to strict review, must meet legislative conditions, is authorized by the NSLC CEO, and is reported to the Minister of Justice of Nova Scotia. Such decisions are also published in the Department of Justice's Annual Report.

The NSLC completes a criminal record check and reference check(s) on all successful applicants. The applicant is responsible for the cost of the criminal record check. Original education documents may also need to be submitted for some roles.

The NSLC is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive hiring process. Candidates contacted for a job interview will be asked if they require accommodation to participate in the interview.
