The Opportunity

The Network and Capital Planning Specialist reports to the Manager, Network and Capital Planning. They are responsible and accountable for coordinating planning for annual network and capital projects at the NSLC. They serve as the hub between the team at the NSLC and our external partners for the information collection, development, and execution of these projects. They are the conductor, ensuring that all people, assets, and processes flow together so that all projects are delivered on schedule and on budget, meeting the NSLC’s specifications and standards, thereby minimizing the organization's financial and reputational risk.

 

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Manager, Network and Capital Planning

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • They actively manage the schedules, timelines, meetings and all other coordination activities for the NSLC’s annual construction projects (10M) and capital projects (3M) from business case development and project definition documents through EOI’s, RFP’s, award window to execution, closeout, and handover to operations team and postmortems
  • On-site visits as required to support the management of the activities above
  • Is accountable for the procurement, ordering and management of NSLC-supplied and managed items for network and capital projects.
  • Accountable for managing and maintaining the capital budget and forecast in real-time. Working with procurement and finance on the purchasing of items and payment reconciliation.
  • Provides support where needed for the Manager, Network and Capital Planning and the Construction and Capital Projects Manager.
  • Oversees the Facilities Management of the Support and Distribution Centre, including day-to-day ticket response and support of capital projects.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Travel as required both during and outside of regular operating hours to support the facilities plan and budget.
  • Assist in the development and achievement of annual business unit plan, objectives and budget; achieve individual objectives as assigned.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of current processes related to this role.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives that advance the NSLC’s service commitment and stakeholder engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and negotiate cost-effective solutions for the NSLC.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the NSLC’s service standards, our values, and workplace health and safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

As a qualified candidate, you will have:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Management, Construction Management or relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of project management experience working with internal stakeholders, contractors, and project managers in multi-unit retail or other industries.

 

As the ideal candidate, you will also have:

  • 2+ years of experience in the use and understanding of construction specifications and coordination of architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to understand what is needed and bring marketing and promotional programs to life.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering complex initiatives in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in SAP within a retail environment is considered an asset.
